Used to represent who or what the subject matter is.
for example with regards to india,the Taj Mahal would be appropriate.
Visual Metaphor.
A Visual Metaphor is used to transfer the meaning from one image to another.
for example "you've got a lot on your plate" i.e. a lot of work on, not literally a lot on your plate.
Visual Metonym
Symbolic images for example the queens guards in london.
